I know what you’re thinking. . .

I’ve wanted to write publicly for a long time.

Fifteen years, actually.

Not because I’ve always acted with courage. I’ve delayed, hedged, compromised, and dressed fear up as wisdom more times than I want to admit.

But despite myself, God’s been faithful to me.

I’m here to bear witness to the faithfulness of God across the years of a real life that hasn’t been neat, polished, or especially well-managed.

Why No Guts No Glory?

Much of what men call confusion is fear.

Of conflict, exposure, loss.
Fear of taking a step before everything is safely lined up.

I believe a man responds to challenge, pain, conviction, and calling with real courage without ceasing to be godly.

That’s what NGNG means for me.

The phrase came to me after I discovered the first Dickson — a 13th-century Scot who kept fighting after being gut-slashed. Holding himself in with one hand while still laying his sword about with the other. The day after I found his story, I was talking to God about it while driving the unknown back roads near our new place. Next minute I’m passing a racing horse stud with a sign announcing No Guts No Glory Farm.

I took that as confirmation God was behind this new focus for me.

What you’ll find here

Mostly, you’ll find testimony.

Stories of where God spoke, led, provided, warned, corrected, steadied, and redeemed.

Some dramatic. Some ordinary. Some costly. Some beautiful.

Together they form my rocks of remembrance. Moments where I know God was in that.

There’ll also be reflections on courage, manhood, obedience, suffering, relationships, and countering the slow death of people-pleasing.

But the heart is being a witness.

Who this is for

This is especially for men tired of compromise who find themselves stumbling down the path I too once found myself on. Newly separated or divorced and tempted to give up on believing there could ever be a better future ahead for them.

Weary of fear dressed up as reason.
Men who know they were made for more than they’re currently experiencing.

But anyone who wants to read honest stories about how God still acts in the messy now of life is welcome.

Thanks for being here.

This isn’t a castle. It’s a gate.
